SICILY. Syracuse. Second Democracy, 466-405 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 22 mm, 17.00 g, 10 h), reverse die in the style of Parmenides, circa 415-405. Charioteer driving quadriga galloping to left, holding reins with both hands; above, Nike flying right, crowning the charioteer; in exergue, grain ear. Rev. [ΣΥΡΑΚΟΣΙΩΝ] Head of Arethusa to left, her hair in ampyx and sphendone, wearing triple-pendant earring and simple necklace; around, three dolphins swimming right and left, a fourth dolphin emerging from neck truncation. HGC 2, 1342. SNG ANS 284 (same reverse die). Tudeer 73. Some flan faults and with light doubling and minor delamination on the reverse, otherwise, nearly very fine.
